Hi, it’s me (again, finally).
This is a brief housekeeping note from the newsletter formerly known as DESK/SPACE, and, briefly, PLAGUE JOURNAL. You last heard from me a little over a year ago, when I sent you an optimistic, heartfelt email that said:
In the next few weeks you’ll be receiving a slightly different version of this newsletter. It will be sent through Substack, where I will be migrating my mailing list and archive. It will probably look different. It might sound different. It may even be about different things.
Obviously, the first part that statement was false. No version of this newsletter, different or otherwise, was ever sent to you. The second and third things, however, have both happened: I’ve migrated to Substack (which is where this particular email has come from), and the newsletter will have a new look and a new title.
As for the fifth thing — what it will be about — I can only provide the same answer I did a year ago:
I’m not sure exactly. It’s an ongoing experiment. One that I’m recruiting you into, probably against your will.
Here’s one thing I can tell you for sure: from now on, you’ll be receiving this newsletter on the 23rd day of each month. Which is a good pace for me, and hopefully for you, too.
Some minor technical considerations:
Because it’s coming from a new place, you may find this newsletter in your spam folder. If you don’t want it to go there, you can mark this address as “not spam” (unless you think it is, in which case, please carry on as before).
You might also find this newsletter in your Promotions tab. Which is fine. But if you don’t want it filed alongside emails from Pizza Hut and Lululemon, you can drag it into your primary inbox, which will make us, officially, best friends.
And so, this Friday—
—you’ll be receiving the latest thing from me, which, if we go by legacy numbering, will be issue #16. Think of it as the Season Three premiere: a new story begins, some new characters show up, things get even more complicated, but, in the end, it’s the same old show (but better).
Talk to you then,
JY
